So, you have thought about it and you have decided that you want them to learn another language. Now the question is, How do you go about teaching your kids Spanish or any other language for that matter?

Part of the answer to this will depend on whether or not you speak the language that you have decided to teach your kids. If you speak the language, obviously, teaching your kids will be much easier. If you don’t, you can still teach them, and it will be easier if you chose to learn the language with them. The following tips and tricks will apply whether you speak the language or not.

The first thing to remember is that the more exposure that you can give your kids, the quicker and faster they will learn. If you have something like direct television, you can program your tv to play in Spanish or whatever language you are learning. This is a great tip, since kids watch TV, they might as well be watching it in the language that they are learning to master! Even without ordering different channels, you can still access the different language tracks just by re-programming your TV.

Music is another way to expose your kids to the new language. There are free music stations online that play music from just about any country in the world. Not only does playing local music get your kids used to hearing the new language, it also helps them get familiar with the culture, which helps them learn faster.

Invest in a learning software. There are many different programs that teach language and this is a great help to teach your kids Spanish fast. If you make a list of 5-10 nouns and make it a goal to memorize them, this will help also.

If you can find local people in your town that are native speakers, this also helps. For example, if you use a babysitter occasionally, hire one that speaks Spanish as their first language. If your library offers a story time in Spanish, go to it. Find out if there are any kids in your child’s preschool, daycare or grade that speak Spanish and encourage your kids to play with them.

If you are learning the language along with your child, practice the words you know together. Kids love showing off what they know, so ask your kids how to say different phrases that you known that they know. And most of all, praise them when they use there new language!
